Your steering wheel is connected to the column and joins the steering box, which is done at the pinion gear junction. This gear rides on a bearing and resembles a drill bit. It is lined up with the rack internally in the steering box. The rack is a long piece with teeth that the pinion gear moves back and forth when it turns. These two parts are the most significant issue in the steering system and it is a good idea to replace them all at once. This is why we offer them as a kit. Remove the cotter pin just beneath the ball joint to get the castle nut off. ֩ Now you can use a pickle fork and a hammer to break the old steering gear box loose. Now take the extension off so you can place it on new one. Now move to other side and take the intermediate shaft off. Use a ½ inch socket to take the bolt on intermediate shaft off. Use a 9/16 inch socket to take the whole steering out. You can use a pickle fork or some sort of wrench to remove that intermediate shaft. Now take that steering gear box off and install new one.
